It's been awhile readers. 2017 has really taken a toll on me as we approach these last few weeks and I'll just list a few ways how:
- August 2017: An important person in my life passed away, leaving a major mark on myself and my close group of friends. #RIPRayL -September 2017: Hurricane Irma ripped through the Caribbean and tore up my sister island, St. Thomas, home to my good friend Caprisha and her family. - 2 Weeks later: Hurricane Maria rips through the Caribbean AGAIN tearing apart my own home, St. Croix, leaving my friends and family roofless, school-less, jobless, powerless, supply-less and loads more. - Most media outlets did not cover the damage to the U.S. Virgin Islands, but rather focused on how these Hurricanes impacted the U.S mainland - Donald Trump has sparked even more controversy over Colin Kaepernick taking a knee during the National Anthem, resulting in other NFL players to peacefully protest and leaving the rest of the country in an even more extreme polarized condition. -Donald Trump has continued to fuel the fire between the United States and North Korea This is just a few things on my mind as I have to go on living my life as an RA, student, employee, producer, career-seeker and person in general. It's hard. I honestly don't even know how to approach the condition the world is in. It's hard to speak out and it's hard to keep it in. There's no time to feel anything or reflect because life is moving so fast. There's little time to focus on one issue, because several others keep popping up. It is time to wake up. There is no more time to sit around and be against one another. It is time to be more understanding and do our parts to spread more life, more love and more positivity to one another, There is such a high level of egoism in this country. We all think that how we live our life is the better life and continuously look down on our peers. Democrats holding themselves to higher standards than Republicans and vice-versa. Vegans looking down on meat-eaters and vice-versa. Gay vs. Straight Black vs. White Employed vs Unemployed Young vs. Old Rich vs. Poor The world is more compartmentalized than ever! We are all squeezing ourselves into tiny boxes and hating or disregarding anyone else who isn't like us and that is the root of these issues. There's more talk and less listening resulting in more arguments and less solutions. My hyper-sensitive to issues like this because I am a glass half-full type of girl and I want to get to a point where we can have our differences and move forward. I want our elected officials to behave in a manner that does not create discourse with other countries when our own country is in shambles. I want our issues to be prioritized in a way that we are more focused on getting our U.S. Territories electricity and back up and running before sitting around complaining that NFL players didn't stand up for the national anthem. I want everyone to DO THEIR PART. Enough of being lazy and just sitting back and watching the world unfold in ways we don't like. Use your craft to spread awareness on issues you care about, get others involved, and actively participate in society. We can't sit around and wait for the world to spiral into oblivion.
