I say 'new hobbies' but I think what I'm really going for is 'hidden passions'. I've tried doing a number of activities in the past, including track and field, basketball, and theater, but I'm not meant for sports - at all. And theater was once the greatest thing in my life, but it appears I've outgrown being on the stage and would rather film a production, than be in one.
As of recently, I've been taking my camera with me everywhere I go and taking up some photography which has been interesting. I've never actually been the artist before, but now it's growing on me. I also started painting, which has also been an interesting experience. I wouldn't call myself the next Van Gogh or anything, but I have some potential. I think this year I'm going to keep tapping into my hidden interests and taking things a step further. Each day I become so much more aware of the possibilities and all the potential out there. I feel like once I can stop being lazy, or doubting myself or thinking something "isn't for me", I'm just going to try it, Because what's the worst that could happen? To expand on my laziness - that REALLY has to stop. All the mind games I play on myself, telling myself I don't NEED to do something, or I can always do something later, that's holding me back. I think laziness and fear holds a lot of us back from what we can do. We know what we want, but don't think it's the time to go do it; with that thinking, nothing will ever get done. I want to start telling myself: "You're not too tired to exercise, Kayra", "You can be a vegetarian, Kayra", "You can get some homework in now and watch Grey's Anatomy later, Kayra". All of these powerful mantras should help me get through the day. Discipline & Risk - my words of the year. I've already been taking risks with my hair and trying new foods and whatnot, but now it's time to take it a step further. Heyyyyy 2016, I'm ready for you.
