cleaner eating

Let's talk about my weight! (Laughs out loud)

For most people reading this, they'll wonder, "What weight? Bye, Kayra". But I'm serious, I'm beginning to think about my body, my health and the foods that I eat. In my last post I briefly mentioned telling myself that I can be a vegetarian, and in light of the new year, I'm going to try... again. These things take time so I'm not beating myself up about not fully committing to a vegetarian lifestyle, but I'm close. I don't plan on eliminating fish or dairy from my diet, because I'm not interested in being a vegan (baby steps!), but for the most part my diet will consist of fruits, vegetables and healthy starches.

Here are some steps I'll be taking to cleaner eating:
  • Step 1: "I Am a Vegetarian" - Speaking things into existence is so powerful, all you have to do is say it or write it down, and it becomes real! My whole thinking process is altered, especially while living on a college campus where you'e not always in control of your meals. By telling yourself, "I am a vegetarian", you can see what's being offered in the Dining Halls and move past it because you refuse to settle and defy who you are. Luckily for me, I have an apartment style room with a stove so I'l be able to create my own meals, in addition to staying strong at the dining hall on Turkey Tuesday's.
  • Step 2: Trying New Foods - One of the main reasons why I could never commit to vegetarianism is because I kept trying to eat the same foods that I was so accustomed to, and missing what's usually there - meat. So I've decided that once I go grocery shopping for the upcoming semester I'll try new fruits, veggies, anything actually. I'll probably keep you guys updated on what's in my pantry and how I get creative in the kitchen.
  • Step 3: Visual Motivation - There are so many tools that can be used as motivation that will keep me focused on my goal. Surrounding myself with Youtube vlogs of vegetarians, following vegetarian enthusiasts on Instagram, and keeping little post-its of who I am and what I want will also help. This blog post in itself will help keep me focused.
  • Step 4: Remember Why - Continuously reminding myself that I truly want to improve my health and discipline myself will also help, as opposed to filling my head with doubt. I know that I'm taking this journey because it's something I really want - I'm not following anyone, nor am I proving anyone wrong. Having good intentions makes pursuing this so much easier and it's easier for me to remind myself why I should pick salmon in the presence of a T-Bone Steak.
  • Step 5: Staying Human - I've been a meat-eater for 19 years, giving that up will be a task, but I'm ready for it. Although, if I do decide to go to Texas Roadhouse for the first time in 2 years, I won't hesitate to order a Ribeye Steak. I intend to allow myself to cheat, but I will also have consequences for my actions (This is where disciplining myself comes in). By not being too hard on myself, I won't feel like I'm punishing myself or as if I'm making a decision that holds me back from experiencing excellence (Like a ribeye steak from Texas Roadhouse)

I know I can do this and I want to do this, and if anyone else is trying to go on a similar journey, let me know! By talking about your goals with like-minded folk, you can really go far, so don't hesitate to comment or submit a contact form.

Also! I've added two new sections under my Portfolio: Photography & Art.
I'm working so hard on visual projects to add on to my portfolio so that should be happening soon.
I've made viewing photos easier and I've also been trying my hand at painting, so check that out too!

Anything you want my opinion on or just want to know? Also let me know, I'm willing to write about virtually anything.

See ya soon!
